The group seems to be searching for a motive or action before thinking of a character or set, personally i think thats the wrong way to go about it and the groups a bit stubborn for me to bother explaining it to them.
In my opinion the way to go about the story is have a scene/set and have a character, but to get them matching and fitting with each other you need a brainstorm.
A book i read put it best. 4 columns:
1) Character
2) Scene/Place
3) Motive
4) Obstacles
All the characteristics of a story, just list as many as you can for each column regardless of how random or how related they are to each other. Once done.... match them up as best you can, some pretty funny or cool stories can be made this way.
.... Anyway i kinda sidetracked there, back to square one.... no story.... best ideas so far are shapes that do stuff.... like a rectangle dancing or ....stuff..

What will people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do when they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak.
